Principal Investments

With investment professionals in Toronto, London and Hong Kong, Principal Investments is comprised of three business units:

·  Natural Resources: focuses on private equity investments in the natural resources industries including oil and gas, mining and agricultural lands. In the oil and gas and mining industries, the group may take a lead role on transactions in Canada or invests alongside one of our existing fund partners outside of Canada. In agricultural lands, the team is building a global platform consisting of both lead and partnering investments. We target equity investments between $200 million and $1 billion and are flexible with respect to ownership interest.

·  Direct Private Equity: focuses on North American and European co-sponsorship and other direct private equity transactions, typically alongside one of our existing fund partners.  In addition the team may undertake a lead role in a transaction within Canada without a partner or provide a full or partial exit to a partner in an existing portfolio company.  The group invests across multiple industry sectors. We target equity investments between $200 million and $1 billion and have the flexibility to hold assets over a long term time horizon.

·  Principal Credit Investments: The Principal Credit Investments team is focused on making direct primary and secondary investments in leveraged loans, high yield bonds, mezzanine, intellectual property and other solutions across the capital structure. The group participates in unique event-driven opportunities, such as acquisitions, refinancing, restructurings and recapitalizations, and targets positions between $50 million to $1 billion in any single credit. The team underwrites on a standalone basis or with select partners depending on the investment opportunity. Since its first investment in 2009, the group has invested over $16 billion in the credit markets. With investments and professionals in the Americas, Europe and Asia, the team is focused on providing financing solutions both globally and across the capital structure.
